May has come and we had an adventurous trip to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina! Pelicans diving, Alligator River reserve (thought we saw one in the wild again), tons of plovers, seagulls, in the forest area we saw cardinals, nuthatches, bluejays, etc..such beauty! WE loved the Myrtle Beach State Park and got the step fixed AGAIN (the electric control box was malfunctioning) and also got a steering stabilizer installed and the Mazda was sounding almost like the Harley's that were roaring into Myrtle Beach for Biker's wEEKEND!!...ANYWAY Mazda got fixed with new exhaust system and now purrs like a kitten. It was repair time in Myrtle Beach..and now for some beach bum days (two nites at $68/per nite..yikes)...the drive over three very long bridges and bodies of water was challenging due to heavy winds..but we presevered and are glad of it..going to a VERY small church tmo. morn on the "Cape." then on Monday we head to Williamsburg, VA...we took back roads today and found a "Meat Station" store with fresh smoked pork sausage, cheese biscuits, and many pork parts that we commonly don't use in the Pac.Northwest..."honey chile"...going back roads we saw shacks, mansions, lots of Spanish moss, swamps, cotton, sweet potato, grain and sod farms..horses and dumpey single wide places..such a mixture of stuff..we notice that the South has many "fleas" for sale..every where we go we see "flea" markets...not sure we want to let Blue loose in those towns..teehee..actually today we stopped counting after 40 "flea" markets..some fun sayings we saw on a church billboard and on the highways: "Walmart is not the only saving place..come on in and see us." North Carolina: the MOST Military friendly state in the Nation Support our troops (oh yes, we stopped in the town outside Camp LeJeune and New River MCAS and heard and saw things that reminded us of our days in MCAS Iwakuni, about "Tarheel Taxi service"...have to mention a miracle we had..we were going to stay overnite in a Walmart in New Bern, N.C. and it was sooo noisey with young "bucks" revving up theirr hot cars (friday nite, you know) and trucks near the after two hours of suffering we rode on in the almost midnite we found an RV Park in the TRailer guidebook and called them..thinking they might have a nite-register instruction on their such luck..BUT a gal named Frances!? called me back and said she would keep on the phone to help us with directions in the small town of Washington jsut past Chocowicinity (try pronouncing that twice??) and she guided us there...the niteguard met us and led us to a was such a narrow country road in the dark..a very stressful evening. BUT we did make it and thanks to a very special little gal at the RV Park in Tranter's Creek, North Carolina...again. we have felt like guardian angels have been protecting us..oh by the way..the step part came OVERNITE to Myrtle Beach..the service manager was a very calm, young, but "can do" kind of guy and he really made our warranty step fix happen for us quickly! we continue to have such adventures each day. Might have a thunderstorm on the Cape tonite..but we are between dunes and have some protection..will write more to all (paul & fran)
