Big Budda - one of the many free stops from our tuk-tuk...

Temple where our tuk-tuk ditched us!

Crammed into a very crowdd train for 6 hrs... We ventured back into the capital just in time to sumbmit our visas and hit up the chatuchok weekend market, we found a place to stay close enough to and far enough away from Ko San Rd (party central for foreigners)and headed straight for the street vendors on Soi Rambutri (inbetween Ko San & where we stayed). There we found our stomachs full but our eyes hungry. Every dish (from rice to curries to noodles) cost 30baht ($1) and all were delicious (we tried MANY over the course of 4 days). Both Saturday and Sunday were spent trying to find our way around the 15,000 or so stalls - that are organized - but chaotically unorganized. Fighting the crowds proved to be a challenge as did bargaining. We were confused by the various vendors that had fixed prices, those that had labelled but not fixed, and those that had nothing at all. Ultimately after about 10-12hrs total of walking around we came out empty handed and vowed to return at the end of our trip to try again. Some of the things we ran into along the way however included: heaps of new and used clothing, shoes, purses etc, puppies, jewellery, rabbits in tutu's, souvenirs, squirells on leashes (not joking), antiques, art, music, pirated materials, you name it and I'm sure we probably could have found it! It's insane!

The rest of our time was spent touring the sites. Andrew got conned into a scam but it ended up working out all the better for us as after not buying anything (they take you to shops inbetween tourist sights) our driver took off, therefore forfeighting the measly 50Baht we were to pay him at the next stop. We saw lots of budda's & temples, insane amounts of markets, thailand's parliaments, chinatown, and almost the grand palace (looked ilke rain so we decided to head back to our guesthouse and save it for the next time we are in Bangkok). The alst day we just ran around doing last minute errants (getting toiletries, visas, checking/writing emails) and caught up in our journals while we lounged in lumphini park. As usual, our budget told us we should stay the night at the airport - so we obliged - and half slept while we waited for our 7am flight to Myanmar.

Thoughts on Bangkok - We'll be back!
