We made the long haul from Mexicali to Bahia Kino, a little village west of hermosillo. It took from 9:30 in the morning till almost night, but it was worth the drive to not get stuck in the hole that is hermosillo. We spent a total of three nights one in the ecobay hotel in old kino, and two at hotel Saro in New Kino. So far we have found that most of the rich and therefore influential people in this part of mexico are American or European, and we have had great interactions with the police and military because of this. Bahia Kino is divided into two sections, old kino, which is a dusty, hot, windy square several blocks wide, and New Kino, which is a long road fronting the Sea of Cortez, with several nicer gringo homes and condos. After one night choking on dust and the fumes of the nearby fish market, we decided to venture into New Kino. We found and old italian guy at one of the first hotels we saw(still dont know his name) and managed to get a room for half price. For those of you who know her well, you know that this was a feat that only rachel could pull off. We spent the next two days lounging in our hammock by the beach in palapas that the city has set up for the comfort of tourists. Our only regret that we didnt stop the guy selling small rubber chickens on the beach when he walked past the first time thinking that he would return in a few minutes. Unfortunately, we didnt see him again and are going to have to look elswhere for our rubber chicken. The last night we managed to catch half of the padres and dodgers game in a local restaurant. In the morning we are heading 600 miles south to mazatlan to meet up with a friend of rachels family named John.
