Trip to California & West from Florida 2008 travel blog

We left the St. Louis area and headed north on I-55 to the Chicago area where we picked up I-80 eastbound. This route did not take us into the more populated area of Chicago and although there was a short stretch of heavy traffic it went quite well. We crossed the border into Indiana where we encountered another time change and lost another hour so we arrived in Elkhart after 5 p.m. EDT. In any event, our plan to check in to the service center before closing was foiled because their hours are 6:30 to 3:30. Thursday morning we got up early and the motorhome was moved into the bay before 7 a.m. This is the customer service facility for warranty work on motor coaches built by the various divisions of Monaco Coach Corporation. Monaco build several brands, Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Safari, Beaver, Roadmaster chassis and probably a few others. They have 30 camping sites with hookups and a dump station nearby which is free for customers. Although the water was not yet turned on at the individual sites at this time of the year there was a place where we could fill our tanks and we of course benefited from the electrical hook up. Thursday and Friday they proceeded to make the necessary modifications to meet Canadian standards; to repair a water infiltration problem that showed up on our trip; and to fix a number of smaller items. They even corrected some things that they saw that were not even on our list.
