| Back in Beijing, we ended our trip with a visit to the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven. The Summer Palace was a beautiful complex with a lake in its setting but I became agoraphobic with the hoards of local tourists flocking around us. Quickly, we left the place to visit the next attraction - the Imperial place of worship called the Temple of Heaven. It was a marvelous piece of architecture with striking colors and a reminder of China’s imperial past. We couldn't spend much time there because we had to pack up and go to the airport. As we drove back to the hotel, we got a chance to see the eye catching Olympic stadium that resembled a bird's nest. Oh, what a wonderful trip! We left with a desire to visit China again to see more of its incredible history and culture. |
