Lake Hume

Misty morning, Victoria Falls

Friday Apr 4th...left Yarrawonga via Mulwala over the river in NSW so we could visit an animal farm on the way. Pretty interesting, lots of very tame kangaroos (obviously never been shot at) and deer, eating out of our hands. Also, emus, water buffalos, horses donkeys etc etc...all looking a tad bored with us.

Got on our way to Wodonga, stopped for lunch in Corowa and then over the river back into Vic and to Rutherglen for a cappucino. Stopped at Parkers bakery and discovered they made award winning pies. One wall of their large shop was adorned with dozens of plaques and awards for their pies. 22 different pies including kangaroo, emu, crocodile, venison and also the usual boring beef, chicken etc. We bought a couple for tea that night.

Arrived Wodonga looking for the post office to collect the 1st of our mail from home. Picked up a reasonable sized bag and then decided to book into a lakeside cabin for the night for something different. The one recommended to us at Ebden was booked out (firies convention) so we drove over the river to the visitors centre between Albury & Wodonga. Booked into the Lake Hume Tourist Resort and also bought 2 tickets to a play in the local theatre. The cabin was a big disappointment, no where near the lake, very cramped...but we made the best of it....heated up our yummy pies and had a feast. Wondered why the other place was booked out and this place was virtually deserted. Then back into town for the play. Quite a good performance, and talented actors. Back to the "house" and bed.

Next morning Terri braved the lake for a swim while I had me brekky and got organised for the next leg. Once packed we drove down for a look at the weir and lake. The lake was really showing the effects of the drought...very low water and dead trees once covered, now starting to appear above the water. Depressing. We're outta here.
