Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

Yesterday was a pretty nice day here in Hannibal, but it remained fairly cool all day.

After our morning coffee, I stepped out to talk with Jeff and he informed me that one of the new guides, a young guy named Gregg, called in and won't be in for work today. Therefore they are short of guides and they wonder if I will be around today. Yes, I have no plans.

I ended up taking two tours through the cave. The first group was 20 third grade kids from Paris, MO. They were super good kids and I enjoyed them as much as they enjoyed the tour. The second tour I gave was a group of 17 from all over. One family was from Jackson, Michigan. They were also a good group and we had fun in the cave.

Speaking of fun, I want to tell you about the sqirrels and the bird feeders. If any of you have bird feeders and squirrels are nearby, you know that it is a constant battle to keep the squirrels away from the feeders.

We have two feeders up. They are on long metal poles which are stuck into the ground. The squirrels can just climb right up the pole and sit on the feeders eating away on the bird seed. I want the squirrels to eat also but they do a lot of damage to the feeders. So, in the constant battle, I sprayed PAM on the poles. That is when the fun began. We now sit at our dining room table watching the squirrels attempt to get to the bird seed. They jump on the pole and now slide right down. They climb a nearby tree and figured out how to jump from the tree to the top of the pole, then climb down and out to the feeder. The feeder then begins to spin and the squirrel is unable to hang on. It is hilarious to watch. They are smart little critters though and they won't give up, so our entertainment continues. :)

Marilyn and I had a garlic chicken & spinach pasta for dinner last night, accompanied by a nice salad, garlic bread, and a glass of wine. Yummy!

Jennifer and Colby will be in to spend the day with us today. We haven't decided what we are going to do yet, but we will have some fun for sure.

I may grill some food today because it is supposed to be a wonderful day with warm temperatures.

Yesterday was a good day and we just can't wait to see what this day has in store.....
