Flock Of Snow Geese

Climbing Out Of The Desert

Pine Trees And Canyon Walls

A White Surprise At The Top

Well, I got my wish, I was just looking back at my blog for the 1st of March and I was complaining about the heat and humidity, hoping for some cool Northwest weather, we have arrived. Tonight we are in John Day, Oregon and we have been battling freezing temperatures and snow since we got up this morning in Winnemucca. There were light flurries when we got up and as we headed out of town the sky cleared, but there were threatening clouds off in the distance. Further up the road, near Burns Junction, we watched the temperature plummet to 27 degrees and the snow started falling. Thankfully it wasn’t sticking, and even though we called on weather and road conditions for the area, it was a surprise to see so much. There were a few spots that were a bit icy, but overall it wasn’t too bad (easy for me to say, I wasn’t driving)

At least we finally left the desert landscape, we started climbing into the mountains and we traversed a few high plains where we actually saw a herd of wild horses. We also spotted Pronghorns and a Coyote, Bald Eagles, Deer and a huge flock of Snow geese probably on their northern migration. It was nice to see Evergreen trees again, even though they were covered in snow.

We wound our way down the mountain into John Day and we found a nice RV Park at the County Fairgrounds. There are some snow flurries, but we braved the cold and the dogs and I played a long hard game of Frisbee on the fairgrounds fields. We are hoping for a break in the weather tomorrow and we will continue north to the Columbia River Gorge.

We spent the night at Grant County Fairgrounds, John Day, Oregon
