|Friday the 14th drove, IN THE RAIN, to De Funiak Springs. Stopped off in Vernon to visit the Three Oaks Winery. Quite different from all the rest. Tasted the wine in plastic medicine type cups. It was good. Something new. They had a mix to add to wine to make a slush. Naturally we had to buy some. Tried it out when we arrived at Mel's daughter's. Mmmm Good. We had also stopped for a tour and tasting in De Funiak Springs at Chautauqua Winery. Here they had fruit wines prepared with juices they purchased. Their Wild Honeyflower and Beach Berry were quite tasty. First time we've seen or tasted a Vanilla Sherry and Chocolate Port. Neither of us cared for them.
Toured the historic district around the lake. Most of the homes are listed in the national registry of historic homes. They are on Circle Drive which goes around the lake. The lake also has a walk all the way around it. No, we didn't have that much energy to make the walk. Did get some pictures. The homes, depot, library etc are all in a circle around the lake. The tree is the biggest magnolia I've ever seen. The home for the college president was donated by the family. Too many different homes to upload here but if you are passing by it's an interesting place to visit and close to interstate 10.
Spent a day shopping in Destin with his daughter and granddaughter, Penny & Brittany. Love this town. It has everything you can think of for shopping. Yes, I got some real deals. More about that when I get home.
Yesterday his son Mark took us to check out some campgrounds. Had lunch at the Gator Cafe. Wished I had my camera. They had the cutest Gator statue holding a tray, about 6 foot tall, greeting us at the door.
Today Mark and Mel have "gone fishing". The rest of the time we've just enjoyed visiting with the kids and relaxing.
Tomorrow we leave for Cleveland Texas to visit his son Ray. Might be out of touch for a week or so. Hope all is well with everyone. Take care.
