New York City here we come...this morning we were up early for the drive to the Orlando Airport, which was an hour earlier than usual since daylight savings time started today...in fact our cabbie almost slept in...fortunately he still got us to the airport on time for our 7:40 a.m. flight to LaGuardia...we arrived in New York and went down to the specified baggage carousel where we waited and waited and waited for our bags only to discover that they were unloaded on a different carousel!!! After collecting our bags we jumped in a NYC taxi for the half hour drive to the Times Square district in Midtown Manhattan where our good friends Peter and Madeline were waiting, having arrived in New York the day before. We arrived at the Marquis Marriott...a 46 story hotel with its lobby on the 8th floor!...which was on the doorstep to Times Square and when we got out of the cab you could feel the electricity and excitement in the air!!!! We checked into the hotel and found our friends and got set to explore the city as Frank Sinatra would...doing it our way!!! Picture this...Madison Square Gardens and an Original Six match-up between the Rangers and the Bruins...how cool is that? New York won the hockey game in an overtime shootout...we walked down Broadway to and from MSG past the spot on Times Square where the ball drops on New Years Eve...and past the big needle marking the Garment District...thousands of people out and about...and billboards and signs advertising anything and everything are everywhere...in fact, the Times Newspaper building is completely vacant and is covered with billboards which bring in more revenue from advertising than renting the space in the building would!!! In the evening we enjoyed sushi at the hotel’s Katen Sushi Restaurant and finished the evening with a nightcap at the Broadway Lounge overlooking Broadway and from where we could watch the people down below.....
