There is a line in an old George Strait song that says " I can't see Texas from here " . That is a favorite saying of ours when we travel . Well, it certainly was good to see Texas when we landed in Houston yesterday . Our departure from Hong Kong was uneventful and since we departed in the dark we were able to once again view the nightly laser / light show in Victoria Harbor . It is an impressive sight which occurs every evening . The new airport in Hong Kong is huge and very new . It is plain to see that the government is just waiting to show this all to the world during the Olympic games . The new location is a great improvement over the former airport where it seemed the pilot would just drop the plane out of the sky onto the runway . I swear we had seen people in their apartment when we landed there. Of course , the site of the former airport will become high rise apartments . The flight to London was very long but British Air made it as pleasant as possible . The highlight was when the plane flying at 36,000 ft had to detour around the Himalayas ! Pete just loved that . We arrived at Heathrow airport early in the morning and were greeted by our friend Neville ( Yvonne and Piet will remember him well ) who drove us to Gatwick airport . Since our next flight was not until the next morning we crashed at our hotel after a good , hot shower . Early the next morning we were on the road again for the last leg of our journey . The sunny skies that greeted us 12 hours later in Houston were a pleasant change from the grey skies of London. So we have been around the world and we are glad to have shared this with you . We have had a grand time and as always with travel , experienced a few unexpected events . That is what makes it fun for us . We just call it " serendipidy " and laugh. We have learned a lot : the world is BIG but it is also small . People are kind everywhere and we were fortunate to meet so many good folks . Since we are in the USA , I was able to include some photos . We hope you enjoy them for they are only a small part of what we saw .Pete and I thank you for visiting with us and also for all the kind messages we have received.
