Jan 28 San Miguel to Cholula. 296 miles. 875 miles from McAllen. 1930 miles from home. Woke up before the rooster this time. Started in cold (44 degrees) fog, really clouds, wet clouds but as we went up we got above them and an hour later it was CAVU. Again, we peeled off layers at the first gas stop. Roads ranged from poor with many potholes to excellent. Much traffic as we circled Mexico City on the east.
Dan's rental Beemer sprung a leak in the transmission and had to be loaded onto the chase truck. We continued into Cholula just before dark. While Lalo and Bryan took the bike to a shop they found we had a good dinner at the hotel, a Club Med facility. They left the bike and joined us at dinner, won't know what the shop can do until tomorrow morning.
Passing Mexico City we had a good view of Popocatepetl, Mexico's famous volcano, just before Cholula. It was spewing enough that we had to wipe ash off the bikes next morning. Zan and Dan, who is fluent in spanish, went to the Puebla airport to pickup Zan's better half, Angela, who will be with us the rest of the trip. The world is no longer our urinal.
