Old boats and new at the jetty of the Isla del Sol,...

We decided to leave La Paz and head for Peru.

On the way we stopped off at Copacabana which is on the shores of Lake Titicaca and the port for the Isla del Sol.

We were really lucky because we found a hostel, La Cupula, which turned out to be the best place we have ever stayed in. The accommodation, staff and restaurant were all top quality and we were sad to leave it the other day.

The Isla del Sol is a smallish island, maybe a bit bigger than Rottnest, which is the birthplace of the Inca culture. We spent a couple of days there walking (it was more like climbing at times) at the highest altitude we have ever experienced, about 4000m. We enjoyed our stay on the island but we had to move on to Cusco and Machu Picchu.

We have organised a trek along the Urubamba Valley to Machu Picchu because the main Inca Trail is closed for maintenance. More news next week.

Hasta luego
