Arizona/California 2008 with Dave & Marilyn travel blog

Welcome to Arizona

Here comes the bad weather!

Snow in Benson, Arizona

They're "only" house finches

The wind is still blowing and Marilyn is trying very hard to not join the "blowing." Thanks to Nyquil and Zicam, she's kept her cold at a dull roar.

The drive west from Deming is over very flat terrain covered with grass and Soaptree Yucca plants with "sky islands" jutting out of the Chihuahuan desert. The most common birds in the area are ravens.

As we drove west, the weather got worse until we were in rain which became snow by the time we were in Benson, AZ. When we came out of the grocery store in Benson, the snow was beginning to accumlate on the car, trailer, and kayak. We headed south to Tombstone Territories RV Park where we set up the trailer in rain mixed with snow. As the afternoon progressed the sun finally came out. According to the TV station out of Tucson, the schools in Tucson area will start late tomorrow because of the snow.

Tonight we will go to the clubhouse to hear a cowboy singer and yodeler. We want to get a little local cultural experience. Tomorrow we'll explore one of our favorite birding areas to look for some of the rare birds that have been seen in southeastern Arizona.
