Where In The World Are Bob & Wendy travel blog

Malibu, California

When we left San Diego, we were a bit sad. The marina we were staying at was such a relaxing place to have moments between our work. As we left San Diego headed north, the views, weather and the trip were marvelous. The view above just does not do justice to the experience we had arriving in Malibu. When we pulled into the campground, we climbed a very steep hill and spun around through lush tropical and desert plants. Our site was designed to back in the coach, but when we saw where we were going to stay, we had to figure out how to nose in for the view. Below is a panorama of what we see every morning from our site. It is about 100 yards from the ocean and about 100 feet above the surf.

The view of the ocean is spectacular, but so is our eastern view. We are at the foot of the mountains and below is the view we have from the rear of the coach. This place is just a few hundred yards from the last Malibu fire. The hill just to our north is scorched and at the bottom is a loan burned house on the ocean belonging to actor Suzanne Summers. You can follow the path of the fire and see how it jumped the Pacific Coast Highway. Ironically, even though the houses almost touch, only hers burned on the part of the beach. Traveling through the back roads finds acres and ten of thousands of acres of burned land with many homes lost. The campground was spared

Here is a picture of the famous Malibu Colony from in front of our coach. Over the years, we have visited the colony and for the most part, the home are not very impressive from the street side. From the ocean side, they are much more impressive and very large. Only a privileged few get to go inside.

Here is Wendy on a break between meetings walking Disney along the cliff in front of our coach and another shot later in the day at sunset.

Today is Sunday the 27th and the day we were supposed to leave. We received an email that our friend Ullrich will be visiting LA. So, we have to extend our stay. Too bad we have to stay. We might even stay for Bob's birthday on February 2nd. 
