1/4 - 1/5
January 4th was a sea day and the ship sailed around the western side of Cuba. Joan went to watercolor class and exercise while Ken went to a port lecture and a lecture on Columbus sailings in the Caribbean. After a delicious dinner we went to the show which featured Freddie Roman an excellent comic. On the fifth we arrived at Georgetown, Grand Cayman.
Georgetown is a tender port which means that there is no dock for the ship. To get to shore you take a tender (in this case they used three of the ships lifeboats). We took a tender to town and walked around the town a bit and then went back to the ship. Georgetown is a very "American tourist" type town with many jewelry stores and souvenir shops (and of course hundreds of banks). We had been to Georgetown before, so we had seen most of the sights. An afternoon on the ship was very relaxing.
The cruise line brought in a group of local Georgetown residents who performed some traditional music and dance. They were excellent. They also demonstrated how they make rope.
The after-dinner show was Mel Mellers a some-what eccentric magician - he was ok.
