Birding and a trip to Mexico
Dec 30, 2007
|Yesterday we awoke to cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. Marilyn and I elected to skip breakfast and settled for our usual morning coffee. Rick & Sherry tried a restaurant in a hotel just up the road from the resort, and said their breakfast was very good.
We met here at our RV just a few minutes after 8:00 AM and drove over to Estero Llano Grande bird sanctuary. We had a walking tour in mind and signed up for that. The guided tour began around 8:30 and lasted for two hours. We managed to see 38 different kinds of birds and enjoyed the walk. I teased Marilyn that this was a hokey thing to do, but all four of us enjoyed it a lot. I have several pictures to post for you.
By the time the tour was over, all of us were quite hungry so we headed for the border.
After parking the truck in a "nearly full" parking lot, we paid our 25 cents each, and crossed the border into Nuevo Progresso, Mexico. We squeezed through the crowds on the narrow sidewalks, with beggars and merchandise on all sides, the vendors pressing us to buy something or to give money to someone.
We finally reached our destination, the "Red Snapper", where we wanted to have lunch.
The food was good as usual and the margeritas and pina coladas were excellent. :)
Once lunch was over we braved the crowds once again to do some shopping on the way back to the bridge.
Once across the border it was heavy traffic through the road construction to get back to the resort. However, once back at our site, we sat outdoors with a cold drink and relaxed. Marilyn even caught a picture of Rick with his eyes closed. :)
We soon decided that we should go inside and play Mexican Train again. In yesterday's journal entry I gave credit to Marilyn for winning a game which was won by Rick. Sorry Rick. :)
Last night we played one game and then called Pizza Hut to order pizza which we had to go pick up. Rick drove in and we picked up the pizza and some Pepsi. After enjoying the pizza, we played another game which Marilyn did win. Once that game was over, everyone was ready to call it a night.
I watched the ending of the New England / New York Giants football game. Congrats to the Patriots for their fine season, going 16-0 up to now. They should win it all. I would expect to see Dallas and New England in the Super Bowl, but Indianapolis may have something to say about that. :)
We slept great last night and I didn't wake up until 6:00 AM this morning.
Today we have another adventure planned. Rick & Sherry are going to church with us and then we are joining other friends at "Pepe's on the River" for lunch.
It should be another wonderful day and I just can't wait to see what this day has in store.....
