We arrived at our hotel early evening, Lucy still feeling a bit down after leaving her family behind to celebrate Christmas. She soon perked up when entering the hotel as we were greeted with the smell and sounds of Christmas! They had a real Christmas tree in reception and a Christmas CD playing. Hurray. We were chuffed with the accommodation, and would recommend it to anyone on a budget. It was built in 1906 and still retained its olde worlde charm.

Our first morning we awoke to the sound of rain, and it poured with rain most of the day. We walked down to Fishermans Wharf where we saw street vendors selling massive crabs and Clam Chowder out of bread bowls. We walked along the sea front, visiting Pier 39 where we saw loads of sea lions sitting and swimming around the moorings. (we did have phots of sea lions etc. but seem to have lost these..poo!)

That afternoon we visited Alcatraz, which we both loved. We had an audio tour which told us all about the famous criminals who had been sent there, really interesting afternoon and the view from the 'Rock' of San Fran was great.

We had two glorious days of blue sky and sun shine. It was a little bit chilly at times but felt really festive.. on one street we even saw parking meters decorated with xmas ribbon. Cool!

The Golden Gate Bridge had to be one of the highlights of the trip. We walked from one end to the other and back again (4k).

We took the tram to the Union Square in the centre, where we did a bit of shopping (A pair of shoes jumped into Lucy's arms and made her buy them!)We went to Macy's, Bloomingdales etc and when Steve had had enough we had an Irish coffee.

We loved San Francisco, it had a lovely laid back feel and a real cafe culture. The people were lovely, the breakfasts were great and the atmosphere around the piers was bustling and the smell... fishy!!! We would definatley recommend to others, one of our top places so far!
