Miami traffic

Well we decided to get off our butts and head to Miami this morning. We left about 9:00 a.m. on the Turnpike and made good time until we arrived in Miami. Lots of construction and slow traffic. At one point we got lost when our GPS told us to turn right and left at the same intersection. We went straight! Bad thing we were lost, good thing we were lost in an old Miami Beach residential area. The homes are fantastic! All sorts of pastel colours and Spanish style construction. Lots of palm and pine trees lined the roads. We spent about an hour getting back on track and by accident found Ocean Terrace where there are a few examples of the art deco style hotels. Not a great area but lots of work being done to restore them. From there we easily found our destination of South Miami Beach and Ocean Blvd. This is where we had a beautiful lunch at a sidewalk cafe called Ocean's Ten. This area was frequented by the Rat Pack back in the day. You see the art deco hotels quite often in CSI Miami. The boulevard is a couple of miles long with beach on one side and hotels on the other. Most hotels have a sidewalk cafe and/or bar as well as some shops. It was quite the adventure exploring the street and the hotels with their unique architecture and brilliant colours. This is one of those spots that was in our book of 'places to see when we retire'. The beach was beautiful, very wide and the water was crystal clear. It was very hot and humid, over 90F and no shade on the beach, so we didn't linger there. It was a very nice way to spend a Wednesday! On Monday, we are off to the Keys and staying in a bed & breakfast in Key West for a couple of nights. We're looking forward to exploring along the Keys.
