One hell of a day. We checked into a Youth Hostel the night before. Youth Hostels are not as bad as I expected. This one was quite nice but there were four of us to a room. By the way... don't plug in an American hair dryer without changing the voltage. Someone did that, and the rest of s had no power the rest of the night of morning. Anyways.
We explored Trier, the photo you see is the Porta Nigra. A large city gate from the Roman times. Trier was actually the capital of the Roman empire for a short while, while Constantine was emperor. We ate an awesome lunch. "Bier und Kartoffeln Haus" (Beer and Potato House) It was wonderful.
After lunch, we drove through the Moselle Valley, and arrived at the Benedictine Abbey of Maria Laach. The cutest man was our tour guide. Pater Viktor Esch. He was soooooo funny and had the craziest accent and voice inflection. After "the look behind the walls" we were allowed to attend the monks Vespers. 30 Minutes of Gregorian Chanting. It was incredibly beautiful. But some rude people in our group decided it would be appropriate to take pictures or film the prayers. I was so embarrassed.
From there we left to Bonn-Bad Hennef Sportschule Hostel.
