On The Trail

Too Pretty

The View from our Campsite

Aisha's Vista

Back in RI before we left, we met a fellow who stopped us in the parking lot of Dave's Grocery store. He asked where in SD we were from because of our South Dakota plates. We explained that we are full-time campers and would be traveling cross-country. He told us that if we are headed out towards SD, that we MUST make a detour to Kildeer, North Dakota for trail riding in the Badlands of North Dakota. He even pulled out his Blackberry and found the name and phone number of the woman who runs the trail rides. We wrote down the info in our travel book and thanked him for giving us another tidbit. Little did we (I) know what a gift this tidbit would turn out to be. The only way to explain it is this:

Mom: "Oh my god!"

Kids: "Mom! What happened?"

Mom: "Oh, sorry. It's just pretty."

Kids: "Moooommmmmmm... Don't do that, we thought something was wrong!"

Mom: "I'm sorry! It's just so pretty, that's all."

We had four glorious days at the campground which we had to ourselves. It is on 6000 acres in Little Missouri State Park. We rode and camped on the 1000 acres owned by the host and trail guide, Lynelle Sandvick. Her daughter and son-in-law now operate the business, but we were treated to Lynelle's company for our trail ride. We rode on Monday and Tuesday and then explored a bit on the Wednesday and Thursday. This was a little indulgence our trip and because of a gift from Donna and Nick Schmader we were able to afford it. Thank you both!
