I took a shortcut through this thanks to the GPS
I didn't see any
Cool new cousins
| I head off this day to go and meet up with my new cousins in Pescara - on the coast. They were quite excited to learn about me and really wanted to meet me so I head off now to do that. I wanted to go via Perugia as I have heard that is a nice place so I head off in that direction. Perugia is quite a hilly town and I really just spend an hour or so there for a looksee. From there I program Pescara into the GPS and head off unbeknowns to me that I was about to head off in the direction of the snow covered Appenine Mountains - according to the GPS this was the quickest route to take. I drive past the town of Assisi and then head into the mountains - the roads are getting smaller and as I climb higher are getting snow covered and icier - wait till you see the photos. There are cars coming the other way so the roads must be open. It hits -3 and I am getting a little nervous but I keep going - everything is snow covered - not just covered but buried - including all the little towns. The road meets an intersection with a name I recognise and it also begins to get wider - this makes me happy - the snow covered areas are also not as snow covered but still heavy. I make it to the adriatic autostrada and am real pleased. I reach Pescara and call Pasquale - my cousin who is very keen to meet up with me. After much confusion with directions I check in to a hotel along the beach and wait for him to collect me. We head off to meet his brother Maurizio and girlfriend Michelle who is Canadian - great I can speak english proper like now with someone. We head off to a pizza joint and have a wonderful time talking - these guys are really cool and the youngest Italians I have had the chance to speak with - most have been older folks. They both run their own real estate business that is doing well - they started it just over a year ago. We talk about this whole story and they are very convinced that Antonio is my dad - they asked what my blood type is and they said my O negative is the same as my father and uncle - I didn't think to ask this. We finish up late and I was not able to pay for anything - this has been the case the whole time I am with family. We agree to meet up again tomorrow. |
