We woke up and saw on the news that one of the leaders of the Khmer Rouge had been arrested! This man had lived in luxury for over 30 years after he ordered mass murder on thousands of people.....however! he is now 87 years old!
We caught a flight to Siem Reap. We were in a fab hotel WITH A POOL! so we just chilled in the afternoon. That evening we went to 'bar street!' (which speaks for itself!)then went to the night market.
The temples of Angkor are spread over 40 miles around Siem Reap and built between the 8th and 13th centuries. There are a mixture of single towers up to massive complex sites. With some stinking hangovers in the group we had an early start to begin looking at the temples.
On the way back we visited the landmine museum. More that 6 million landmines still cover Cambodia and we met and heard the stories of those who have been devestated by them.
In the evening we sat at the top of the temple and watched the sunset!!
Got picked up at 5am and travelled to Angkor Wat - which is regarded at the master of Angkor Temples. Its pretty spectacular!!!!! we watched the sun rise from the steps!
In the afternoon we went on a lake boat ride to the floating village where everything floats!!! shops, houses, pool tables! youve got to see it to believe it!
As our boat went through the village, little speed boats ride alongside and children jump out to try and sell drinks!
In the floating village there is a croc breeding area!!They kindly gave us a demonstration of feeding a live catfish to them!
After the trip we went to a local food stall and tried snake!!! It was pretty nice! not much meat! but is a really light meat with not much flavour!
On the way back we chilled in a bar with no seats but hammocks....where we watched the sun set!
