Jill and Tom's 2007 travels travel blog

If Cape Cod and Martha's Vinyard did not live up to our preconceived notions of being "hoyty-toyty", Newport, Rhode Island surprised us as being such.

Newport is a city on Aquidneck Island in Newport County, Rhode Island, about 30 miles south of Providence. Known as a New England summer resort and for the famous Newport Mansions, Newport is also renown for being the "Summer White House" during the administration of President John F. Kennedy.

A step away from the mansions and high-end shops though and Newport, RI is a VERY beautiful place. Tom and I did a "cliff" walk, right on the edge of the shoreline which was just breathtaking. We also found a great pub that served free Friday night "buffet" of hamburgers, hotdogs, au gratin rice along with proper non-"3-2" ale. Now, who can complain about that?
