Ethel in Spain, 9/26 to 10/10/2007 travel blog

We are in Salamanca. Think I have lost a few days because it has been raining on and off.Fortunately, mainly we were traveling so no big deal but I just found an Internet Cafe onthe Plaza Mayor just after lunch.Either it was the wine andliquor(herbal, ofcourse)thatI just had or this computer doesnot have a space key but I am having a hell of a time typing this. But we do not let these things deter us.

The hotel room in Madrid was the size of a closet because we paid a singlesupplement.Therewere a few annoyed people including me. ;-(

After Madrid, headed for the town of Guadalupe in Estramaduras, which has as its claim to fame the Monastery of the Black Virgin . Known for embroideries, and handwork ofthe monks. Also large collection of Zubirons (likeN.C. Wyeth)m and donatedGoya, andElGrecos. ASlso the Virginturns around so we got tosee her up close. Also Monastery dediated to strongwomen of the old testament - Judith,Ruth.

Stayed at the Posada de Rincon,a charming tiny hotel. Rain,thunder,lightening--none ofwhich stopped us from churros and chocolate. Lost electricity so went to sleep; when lights came on packed, etc.,went back to sleep. Woke up to no electricity. Some of jerks on the trip started banging around at 7 am when we were not going anywhere. No bkfst so off we went to Merida where the Romans had a retirement city.

I think it is time for siesta. And some shopping.Did buy a beautiful small plate in Talevera De La Reina. Just before we got to Guadalupe. Thought would find some designs as in Puebla,Mexico but very different.

BTW. Antioxidents also in garlic and olive oil. Am I eating healthy!!!

Gotta write about the three museums went to in one day in Madrid butleft my notes at the hotel.

Love,

Ethel
