We've had a great two days 'rest' from the rigors of traveling and (Walmart) camping. We've been to the hot pools four times and golfed twice. The first time was at an interesting little par 3 called Coy's. We were warned not to hit the barn... it's just beyond the first green. Then you take the path between the first green and the second tee... through the barnyard! There are many hills, making good approach shots a necessity. Luckily, Graham did well on this one. The second course 3 was the Fairmont Creekside Executive layout. Elaine did great, and even got an 'almost' hole in one. Her tee shot stopped within 2 inches of the hole, and we have the picture to prove it. Way to go Elaine! Of course, that and many other very good shots meant that she beat Graham on this day.
This has been a really good month on vacation. We logged about 4,500 kilometres in the bus, driving for about 60 hours. We've crossed three provinces and four states, we seem to have encountered the Columbia River in many places, and we've seen some really interesting and impressive geological formations. We played golf in all states and provinces (except North Dakota and Alberta). We've met some nice folks camping, checked out Phil and Tracey's new home in Kelowna, and we've gotten to know our future new home town of Oliver a little better. Tucker seems not to mind traveling so much. We've taken to calling Cassie the assistant navigator while Tucker is our engineering officer since he's usually found checking out the things going on under the dashboard.
Because we will be putting the bus to bed for the next three months or so, we started doing some of the inside and outside cleaning on Thursday afternoon. It will take a few days to fully prepare for winter, so might as well get a jump on it.
On Friday, we will make the final trek home, a reasonably short 4.5 hour trip. Unfortunately, the weather is beginning to deteriorate and snow is forecast for higher elevations on Thursday night. If it makes it to highway level, it should be gone by 10:30 or so when we get to Kindersley Pass just east of Radium. Storm Mtn Pass will be a more severe test...if it's raining/snowing anywhere, it will be there.
Hope you readers have enjoyed this journal. We will start the next one when we leave for our first 'snowbird' trip in mid January 2008. See you then!
