The homestay in the mountains

The homestay in the mountains

Travel Buddies: Me, myself and I and then Erol came to join me, Sofia (Sweden), Fernando (Columbia)

A three day trek was my first stop off around the area of Bukkitinggi. A beautiful if not exhausting trek through rice paddies, over many a hill and amongst many a buffalo. The guide was not fantastic but the trek was well worth it. We stayed the first night with an old couple in a localvillage of around 30 people and they really made me welcome. The second night we stayed in a wooden stilt house up in the hills overlooking Danu Maninjau which was beautiful and I resolved to bring Erol back here.

Erol arrived and we headed down to Danu Maninjau where we met up with Sofia and Fernando and stayed some days. We felt five big tremors from the earthquakes, each one making our treehouse cabin sway madly and giving me earthquake sickness!!!! I took Erol up to the mountain homestay where it was just us and the gibbons. Stunning.
