Our last night from Elk Rock State Park, on Red Rock Lake, at the crossroads north of Knoxville & west of Pella, about 30 miles SE of Des Moines, Iowa.
When we landed here, we arrived with a desire to offset the series of short stays & frequent moves that we had made over the previous two weeks. Now, thirteen days (as of tomorrow) later, that desire has been satisfied so we are ready to move-on.
We still love this place as much as we did the first day that we arrived. We've enjoyed several days of just sitting here under the awning, reading, working crosswords, chilling, etc., being the only people anywhere around.
Mother Nature has blessed us with a regular parade of her animals. We have seen deer come out of the woodlines into the campground cove several times. Their displays have ranged from singles, to a pair of young bucks, to a group of five, to a pair of does. This afternoon we saw a flock of turkeys, several times we have seen raccoons. Thanks, Mother, for sharing with us!!!!!
Tomorrow we are leaving here, heading down to Ray Behrens (COE) Campground on Mark Twain Lake near Hannibal, Missouri. Tomorrow night we will add another state to the list of those in which the bus has been our home this year; the count will then be at seventeen states since January 1. GyPSy Lady tells me that the trip will be 193 miles.
We are thinking that after Hannibal, we will then head to St. Louis, St. Genevieve, & then possibly over to Branson, so that we spend most if not all of October in Missouri.
We have no exciting adventures to report for these past few days. Since posting the last entry, we have only been outside of the park once & that was for a quick trip to WalMart.
Today did have a special event for us though. Long-time journal readers John & Sherry emailed us yesterday that they were in the area for a few days & wanted to meet face-to-face. We ALWAYS enjoy meeting new friends, so we jumped at the opportunity to meet.
Even though their home is now in Texas, John had grown-up in Pella & still has family in the area. Since they knew the area better than we did, we suggested that they come to our location. Not only did they bring themselves, they even brought some tummy-goodies!!!!!!!
John & Sherry are working towards getting their Texas home sold & getting themselves onto the road full-time. They have had several motorhomes & are traveling in the one in which they will full-time.
We spent a chunk of the afternoon sharing experiences with them. Our time went way too fast before John had to head back & continue painting his Dad's house. John & Sherry, THANKS for sharing your time & your tummy-goodies with us!!!!!!
I know this entry is shorter than most that I write, but it covers all that has happened......don't get used to these shorties, I'll get back to the longer entries real soon!!!!
