Stopped here our first night heading home. Had a long day, 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Note the name - Alan reed, yes, just like our favorite Big Al. We called Al and Annie to tell them we stopped there for the night. Al wanted to know if they had a Ruth Chris Steakhouse. Well, they had a Burger King. It is on the old Route 66, which is now I-40, in that area. We slept in the Rest Area which is totally retro - art deco in theme. Lots of Route 66 memorabilia inside with a guard at the desk answering questions. We excitedly told him we had a good friend with the same name, and he just looked at Dean and grunted. A very friendly guy. We had a quick bite and collapsed into bed.
