The Gap Year of EMF travel blog

Hooray for another Friday! I am really looking forward to this weekend, maybe because I'm just so tired by the end of the week.

Cool things are happening at the hospital though. The doctors in the ER are really nice, always willing to explain things if there is time. And unlike in Peds, there is often time to show me cool things like the X-rays. Yesterday was pneumonia day in our ward, 2 of our 5 patients had pretty serious pneumonia. So I learned stuff like what was wrong with their X-rays, and the different kinds of pneumonia. Today we had this woman that had to get a CAT scan of her brain, and I got to go watch. That was cool, they put her in a machine like on TV. Only her daughter stayed with her the whole time, trying to get her to stay still. This woman did not want to stay still, for awhile we thought we weren't going to be able to take the CAT scan cuz she wouldn't hold still. The sound the machine made when it scanned was just like those old TV shows when space ships shoot lasers. So I could easily imagine all those harmful X-rays coming at us and being stopped by the wall (or in the daughter's case the lead apron she wore). That was fun. It was also nice that they didn't seem to mind how I was falling asleep all day long. I only got three hours of sleep after salsa last night, you see, so I was a little tired.

Salsa, as usual, was excellent. The staff are great fun, they dance with us and preform the occational rescue when a volunteer is no longer comfortable with who they are dancing with. I watched one of them stop a guy who was bothering one of our volunteers, that was great. The best part is, by the end no one was angry and the guy just walked away. Total sucess. After salsa, on our way back to the house, Antonio got hungry so we stopped at the 7-11. I got an ice cream sandwich, mmm, magnificent. There is nothing quite like ice cream at 2 in the morning.
