Sheila & Terry's New Zealand special holiday travel blog

The taxi journey to the airport was quick and efficient at midnight and booking in the luggage easy. We just hoped it was going to arrive back with us. Security checks getting out of Singapore were no problem as long as you had your entry visa so we had a couple of hours to kill waiting for the flight.

Singapore airport has a free internet so we caught up with some of our emails and the blog but more interestingly it had lots of free foot massage machines... mind you .... you did look odd sitting there with both feet stuck in a large bread bin with two black holes in the top. The machines were quite strong but certainly massaged the soles of your feet effectively ready for a long flight.

The flight to Dubai was 6 and half hours and as it was the middle of the night passengers were encouraged to sleep with the lights down low.We both managed at least 3 hours fitful sleep before breakfast was served.

We then had to disembark with all our hand luggage again and pass in and out of security checks nd screening with long queues for both. We then climbed back on board a new plane for a 7 hour flight to Manchester in the daylight.

We had good window seats at the back of the plane and found the mountain landscape of Iran below is fascinating as it was a clear day. From our vantage point it was easy to identify where there were old volcanic craters, crumpled orderly rows of mountin ridges, fault lines and even the evidence of earthquakes. All this made the time pass quite quickly until the clouds of western Europe.

We arrived to rain in Manchester... what a surprise!... and after a taxi drive back to Julies house and car journey to Leeds, we got home late afternoon feeling very disorientated but glad to be back.
