The Gap Year of EMF travel blog

Sunday was Mexico's independence day. That's cool...not that I could tell. See, I couldn't actually tell that it was independence day. There have been flags and lights and ribbons for a week now, and there were no more and no less on Sunday than any other day. There was apparently a parade, but I skipped that for a rodeo.

The rodeo was pretty cool! It was a classic rodeo, with lots of men on horses in big hats. I have never seen a rodeo before, so that was pretty cool. They made their horses do some really cool stuff. I was amazed how fast they got a horse from a gallop to a dead stop. The horse would run straight for a wall, and then manage to stop just before they got there. It was impressive, their noses often touched. Ok, so a lot of people don't like rodeos because of cruelty to animals, but I didn't see that much. I mean, there were events like hang on to this bulls tail and make it fall over, but the bull wasn't seriously injured. And it looked kind of funny. Some of the animals did look underfed though, and that was sad. Still, the dusty arena and the crazy cowboy hats and the ever present food vendors were pretty cool. I almost had to buy some of those boots, but I didn't have my money with me :(

Today was my first day in the ER. It was cool, the doctor seems nice and is a really funny guy, I like him. The ER itself is cool, I don't really understand how it works yet, and there were not any impressive emergencies today. But I still got to see them map someones heart rhythm, and then a cardiologist explained to us what it meant. Now if only I could have understood what he is saying. Tomorrow another volunteer joins me in the ER. That will be fun, and differnt, having someone else to talk to, yay!
