It was about 40 degrees this morning and our plan was to go to Sturgis and to Deadwood. We dressed for what we thought would be cool weather, but when we got to Sturgis, 16 miles from the cabin, the sun had come out and it was already 86 out. What a swing, ay? Needless to say, we peeled off some outer layers and sat in the shade at the Harley dealer for a bit before touring through the off-season city of Sturgis. Biker bars galore, but we did not indulge all alone and instead headed for Deadwood. The preserved gold mining town had lots of historic spots and oodles of casinos. We're making plans for Sylvia's flight out - ha! We went up to Boot Hill cemetery and found Wild Bill Hickock's and Calamity Jane's gravesites. Someone had put some nice flowers in a Jack Daniels bottle at her headstone....she was a drinker you know. Her dying wish was that she be buried next to Wild Bill even though many say he was not her boyfriend, but she got her wish...good for her! We got into costume to have our old time photo taken and copies are available to any of you for a nominal charge :-). We stopped at Dakota Mart, got our groceries and made sure we were back to our hard to find cabin by nightfall. Dean grilled up a New York strip for Mark, Laura and Deb split a T-bone, and whaddya think Dean had?
