Today we headed to see Schloss Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. We had fun trying to stay dry waiting to get in to Hohenschwangau. The castle is beautiful and quite intimate for a castle. Next up was the hike up to Neuschwanstein. We got a little bit of a break from the rain. Neuschwanstein is a much bigger castle at the top of a hill. The view of the valley is incredible from there. Neuschwanstein has incredible details. It is a definite must see. Pictures will follow if we find an internet connection that can accept a USB card.
After touring Neuschwanstein we walked up to Marianbrücke. The view from Marianbrücke is amazing. We decided to hike down to the bottom of the waterfall under Marianbrücke. It's a very scenic area. The path continued on down along the river so we decided to hike on out from there. At this point it was raining again. The path follows the river and even has a metal pathway attached to the rock that hangs out over the river. That was a fun adventure while getting hailed on! We've never experienced anything quite like that. After we got down to the bottom we headed over on a flat trail back toward the castles and discovered that there were cattle coming our way. The guys with the cows were taking them over to a different path so we waited until the herd passed and then continued. I never thought we'd run into something like that while out touring castles for the day! I got some pictures of Paul and a cow or two while they were going by. It's definitely something to listen to all of those cowbells as they're passing. We finally got back to our car and the fresh bread, cheese and tomatoes we had brought.
Tomorrow we leave Ehenbichl headed up the Romantic Road to Rothenburg. We will miss the Reutte area. We had a great time here. Hopefully the rain won't be too bad in the morning so we have a chance to hike up to the Erenburg ruins on the hill above Ehenbichl.
