evening view of Akaroa from the back of our van on the...

After a late breakfast after seeing the YEP off to sea in Oamura we drove up the SH1 across the Canterbury Plains which are as the name suggests very flat and with very straight roads. They do have a view of the snow capped southern Alps(including Mount Cook) in the distance to the west.

We arrived in Akaroa still in glorious sunshine to a lovely top ten campsite overlooking the town.It is advertised as being 300m from the town...so it was ...mostly up! It gave lovely views from the back of the van in the daylight and all the lights of the town twinkling in the dark.
