During the Escapade we spoke with a representative from Air Photo, Inc. They take helicopter portraits of homes and need an extensive staff of mobile people to sell them to the homeowners. It sounded like fun to us, so here in Gainesville we tried it for the first time. It was a challenge to read the map provided by the photographer and translate it into homes on the ground, but after a while we got the knack. The people of the area weren't very well off, however, and few of them could afford the pictures. The ones who were tickled with their pictures made up for the others. One family who had just picked their citrus crop offered us all we could carry away. Neighbors of theirs offered to let us stay at their hookups the next time we were in the area. Aren't people great?
We would never have visited O'Leno State Park had it not been for Air Photo, so that is another advantage of this job. The Santa Fe River sinks into the ground at this park and rises again 3 miles down the road. We listened to a pair of divers who are also spelunkers and had explored dozens of miles of underground river. What a dangerous and interesting hobby!
