Today we catch the ferry at 4pm. That is , IF it is sailing - the winds are near gale force. We had tried to switch our sailing to the 14 hour crossing from Argentia on the same date. This would have allowed us to spend more time exploring the east side of the island. But alas there was no room on the boat. In hindsight this was a good thing. Instead of 14 hours of rough seas we only suffered 7 hours. I seem to be having a bit more trouble with motion sickness as I get older and that's a drag. I didn't toss my cookies but I was happy to have a seat where I could watch the horizon. Some people get hammered at the bar. This is not something you should do if 1) You have a 4 ½ year old in tow and 2) you need to drive when the ferry docks. Anyway we all managed to survive the flying cafeteria trays and I wouldn't want anyone to be scared away from Newfoundland by a bit of rough seas. If you can, go to Newfoundland. If you don't like boat rides, take a plane but go. Plane or ferry, they both provide complimentary barf bags.
The ferry from Port aux Basques, Newfoundland arrived at 10pm in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. We decided to go straight to Louisbourg that night, arriving at the Louisbourg RV Park after 11pm. We just took the suggestion posted on the closed office door and grabbed any available site. This campground is a joint venture by the Louisbourg merchants. The campground is in the heart of the village on the wharf. Cool!
