Matt and I took a train down to Naples today intending to see Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii. Both of which I have seen before, but I thought Matt would be interested in, so we made the long day trip (approx. the same distance as Calgary to Edmonton one way). Plus the train ride is very scenic through the country side and the Amalfi Coast. When we got off the train for Vesuvius there were scam artists everywhere trying to charge us €40 to get up the volcano. Deciding that was not a good deal, we moved on to Pompeii.
Pompeii was amazing! The ruins are in great shape for lying under the earth for so long, and then enduring excavation. Again being cheap, we embarked on a self guided tour. They provide you with a map upon admission, so it wasnt too hard for us to figure out what was what. The coolest part was the casts that were made from humans who had been trapped in the lava.
Tomorrow we move up the coast.
