Black Bear in tree

Lake Sherburne

Our St Mary camp site

Today was declared a day of rest before we hit the road tomorrow. We decided to drive to Many Glacier (only 21 miles) in hopes of seeing some wild life. From previous visits to Glacier, we had seen bears in this area. We did manage to see one black bear in a tree. I think it is the only time we have seen a bear in the wild in a tree.

We did learn that they had finally opened the trail to Iceberg Lake. This trail had been closed all summer because of bear activity. We had hiked this trail many years ago with Matthew and Michael. It was one of the most beautiful hikes that we had ever taken. Mountainsides full of wildflower, views of goats and grizzlies in the distance made this a memorable hike.

The rest of the day was devoted to resting and doing chores around the trailer. We went to the ranger program which was on Ospreys. There was a nest of ospreys outside the visitor center. We are ready to move a little closer to home tomorrow.
