Early morning walk at Pakiri Beach

Pakiri horse ride when Terry was in control

Pakiri beach is off the beaten track down untarmaced roads and very very quiet. We were the only campervan on the site and perched on the estuary edge with the back of the van looking out onto the beach. We could see where we hoped to horse ride the following day on the other side of the estuary so decided to cycle and book in...... 10 km later we finally reached the farm...but it was a lovely cycle, just a bit of a rush to get back before it got dark at 5.45pm. There is little twilight so you can get caught out in the dark very easily.

That evening and night it poured with rain and in the morning we wondered about the sense of getting wet on horse back.

After breakfast it did not seem quite so wet so we drove round to the farm....a good decision as the sun came out.

The ride was great if not a little hairy. It started by crossing a stream but because of the storm it was very deep so we were told to lift our legs onto the saddle to prevent our feet getting wet! We then walked/trotted at times for quite a long way only the beach passing a couple of dead blue penguins that had not made the storm. We then went up throught the dunes and back through the bush. We had a canter up the dunes and Terry went sidewards all arms and legs but managed to stay on much to his surprise!

When we got back to the campervan we had a phone call from the airport ,,,,,and .... they had our luggage and wanted to know where to send it. GOOD NEWS
