Welcome to our second trip journal of our wanderings. Those of you who followed our adventures in New Zealand remember that some days Bob makes an entry, some days Marilyn makes an entry, and some days we fight over the vocabulary, grammar and syntax in a joint entry. Bob is starting us out.
We are deep into planning our extended stay in France.
An overview of what is planned follows:
Day 1 (Sept. 4, 2007): starts with a Southwest flight from Midway in Chicago to Long Island, New York. Getting from the LI airport to the dock in Red Hook, NY is still up in the air. We board the Queen Mary II in the afternoon and depart for Southampton, England at 7:00 PM.
6 Days at sea with formal adventures, dining & dancing.
Disembark at Southampton, cab to train station, train to London Waterloo station. Board the Eurostar for a train ride thru the chunnel to Paris Gare du Nord. Schlep our luggage to 73 Rue Lamarck for a stay in our own apartment in the 18th Arrondissement. 6 Days in Paris
TVG high speed train from Gare de Lyon Paris to Avignon, Provence to pick up our new (leased) Clio II Renault car. Drive to our gite, Mas de Chouette for a 3 week stay in Saint Remy de Provence.
Drive to Andorra to say we have been there, followed by a leisurely drive thru southwestern France to the coast. Drive up the coast to visit the Normandy WWII sites, then on to Brussels, Belgium followed by the Ardenne and Champagne on our way back to Paris.
One more night in Paris, then Eurostar back to London, train from London to Southampton. Board the Queen Mary II for the trip back to New York.
A ride of some kind to Long Island airport for the Southwest flight home to Chicago. This was finalized just today (Aug. 15).
Our many research books (over 30) have been throughly thumbed, marked & approved by Barkley to show the places we need to see & eat in Europe. Timewise, we are now probably talking about a two year trip, not two months. I guess the 6 days crossing the Atlantic will be used to narrow the list of things to do when we're not eating in the Princess Grill, dancing in our formal wear, smooching under the moon, etc.
Next up the day of travel to board the Queen Mary II.
