We woke up nice and early this morning and packed our things. We also had a pretty decent breaky. We paid the hostel this morning so we didn't have to cook ourselves! We left around 8:30 and headed up the coast of Loch Ness! Our first stop was at an old castle.
The castle was a little more than halfway up the loch. When we got there we were told that because there was an admission fee we weren't going to get too close to the castle. All it is is ruins and they have decided to start charging people to see it. They have even gone as far as planting trees between the castle and the parking lot so visitors can't see it from the road. But since we have the best tour guides we were told to just stand on the little 3 foot wall (with signs all over asking people not to stand) and take some pictures from there. It didn't look like too much. It was pretty ridiculous that they would charge people to look at some old ruins!
A little north of the castle we stopped in Drumnadrochit and did a little Nessie hunting! There is also a Loch Ness Monster exhibition centre there. We all stood on the rocky shore and did a ritualistic dance and then threw some rocks in the water! It was pretty funny. Our one tour guide filmed it for one of the people and after we threw the rocks in the water he panned across the loch. In the distance there was a unknown splash about halfway across. No one saw anything though so there is no explanation!
After we left the hunt we continued up the loch. We learned that there are apparantly 18 unidentified creatures in the loch. They have been spotted on sonnar but never seen. The water is VERY dark and once you get down about 10 metres you can only see a few inches in front of you. The darkness comes from all the peat that gets into the loch. It is 750 feet deep and contains more fresh water than England and Wales combined.
