No Heli-hike for Seanie

Leave her, let her go, leave her ....

On the gold mine trail

Its a jungle out there ...

We woke up this morning to a complete and total washout, the promising weather we had experienced on our journey to Fox had changed overnight into a total downpour meaning our heli-hike up to the Glacier had to be cancelled. V.disappointed, but decided to go on an adventure day instead.

We found ourselves in the small gold mining town of Ross on the West Coast (along with 2 other visitors ... in the rain). We walked along the old water sluice No.1 path through the hills and back to the camper, stopping off at an old miners cottage just when the heavens opened once again. Having locked Nat in the gold robber stocks I was tempted to make a quick break for it, but took pity on her in the rain and decided to rescue her !

We then got back into the camper and headed off for Arthurs pass, where we decided we would "wild camp" (i.e. no electric hook up). We bedded down for the night after another sample of Camper van cuisine and hoped the morning would bring sunny blue skies for our trip onto Kaikoura.
