Because Chicago is a pretty expensive place we stayed about 3 miles out of the city in Chinatown, but the train station was only 2 blocks away so it worked our really well. We caught a bus and went to visit a place called the Navy Pier, which is a popular spot for tourists just on lake Michigan that borders US and Canada. We went on the big ferris wheel to catch an overlook of the city, then afters we went and saw Cirque Shanghai which was an amazing circus performance from the Chinese based circus show.
Sears tower is one of the tallest buildings in the world so we took a ride up to the 102nd floor to see what all the fuss was about. We were lucky enough to go on a fairly clear day so we had some really good views looking over the big city buildings that there is heaps of in Chicago, one of the buildings that you can see is actually the top of one of the Jails so you could see all the inmates hanging about on the roof. As we had done in other previous cities Bec and I fed our nerdy side and went into the library to catch up on emails etc etc, and I must say that some of the libraries that we have been to in the USA are amazing, it actually makes you want to read and learn haha (Seriously)
We took a stroll along the lake and arrived at Millennium Park, which features a massive jellybean type structure made of steel. It was pretty cool to go underneath it and look up too see about 10 different reflections of yourself, then a short 5 minute walk took us to the Buckingham fountain. Afterwards we took a walk into the city and strolled down an area known as the "Magnificent Mile" which is basically a big shopping stretch on Michigan Ave.
Most of our dinner meals were of some sort of oriental nature as we were staying right in the middle of Chinatown, all the food was good and most of the time at a reasonable price which is good for us as we near the end of our trip.
We spent the days in Chicago just wondering around the city and hanging around Navy Pier, we did walk by a beach nearby when it was a good day, but didnt take the time to sit around and have a swim.
Our time in Chicago has been fun, but it is now time for us to move onto our next location New York City.
