We woke up early after a nice sleep and started our trip. Last night and this morning we spoke to a group of young people who were biking across America for affordable housing. It's taking them three months to do so. Glad to see there are still people with the willingness to do something good for the world and can you imagine biking across the country? (I think that would be my personal hell - Shelly)
At 7:45am we "Got the hell out of Dodge".

Our first stop was not far from Dodge City and was the most preserved set of wagon trails from the Santa Fe Trail. Our route on Hwy 50 follows this trail for the next day.
Shortly after that we passed Holcomb, KS. This might sound familiar to some of you. This is the town where the Clutter family was shot in the 1959 and became famous by Truman Capote in his book "In Cold Blood" (and later made into a movie, "Capote"). It was not as desolate as I expected but I still could not imagine such a murder taking place there now. We did not stop and ask for the family farm. I'm guess it had been torn down by now. Not really something a town wants to be known for.
