Today started at the Newgrange Lodge with a busy agenda! We are down to the wire now and there is still 1/4 of a country to see! So this was the first morning that I made Maren get up early and get a move on! It was hard at first as she is "Soooooooooooooooo tired mommy!" Tara Hill opens at 10:00 and my intention is to have breakfast at the hostel and then make it there for the opening.
Tara Hill is a hill on the side of the Boyne Valley. It really does not seem like much other than a bunch of interesting mounds on the hillside. But when one finds out the history and the myths about this place, it becomes very signifigant in a country full of history, hardship and stories! This is the place where the High King of Tara would rule from in ancient history. This is the place that was overtaken to ensure British rule of Ireland and this is the place that St. Patrick lit the fire on the neighboring hill, Hill of Slane, to oust Paganism in Ireland and introduce Christianity. And this is the place that twice a year, if you come to the top of the hill, it is said that you can enter the world of the faeries from. It was a short visit but it was a special place for me, remembering where I come from, and looking to the future, to where I am going!
From there it was picking up the washing in Slane, a drive to Dublin and finding the hotel where my precious precious Visa was couriered to. All successful, and we are checked into a downtown Dublin hotel by 3:00 pm with the rest of the day and night to discover.
