A Year in Asia 2006- 2007 travel blog

A bus to a river crossing to another bus and we reach the Brunei-Malaysia border. We unload, walk our bags to the booth where the traffic also stops, and soon have been stamped into Malaysia. We're only given a 30 day stamp this time, but that shouldn't be a problem. We'll be in Thailand soon.

Another bus takes us from the border to the town of Miri. Watching the passing streets and our map closely, we manage to get off before the bus depot. Our guesthouse is within walking distance.

Miri seems to be a relatively modern town with few tourist attractions to delay us. We wander to the tourist info centre and get information on our next day's visit to Niah National Park. Then some dinner and an early night. Not really much of note.

The next morning, we walk to the local bus depot and catch a bus to the long distance terminal ... and finally we are on our way to Niah. An hour later, we're at the Niah junction and a waiting taxi is there to take us to the provincial park just a few kilometres away.
