Hello All,
As the title would suggest our adventure is over and we are back on home soil.
Although it's a bit sad to think about what we've missed (Vietnam with Annette & Martin, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Borneo, returning to Malaysia and Singapore) we can't be anything but pleased with what we've managed in the last 8 months - India (amazing), New Zealand(breath-taking), Australia (party, party, party), Bali (tranquil and gorgeous), Singapore (clean), Malaysia (great shopping, crystal clear water, tropical islands), Thailand (partying, relaxing, having fun and working on our tans) and Laos (a real slice of Asia before the Mc.Donalds revolution) - It's been the best experience of our lives and neither of us would swap it for the world!
Our last days in Bangkok where a heady mix of drinking, stressing, shopping and (of course) visiting hospital. When we weren't visiting the men in white coats our friends Ricky, Rachael, Job and Paul did an excellent job of keeping our spirits up. We had an brilliant last night with them (they headed off to Koh Pha Ngan the day before we came home) drinking like it was going out of fashion (even Jodie on her steroids), eating at one of our favourite restaurants (Cool Corner), wrestling small children to the ground (ask Jodie if you want to find out more), eating bugs (see picture of Job), annoying the tribal street sellers (we gave them a taste of their own medicine by croaking the frogs at full volume every time they came near) and generally acting like a bunch of drunk teenagers out for the first time without their parents - The memory of that night will stick out as one of the best in Thailand!
Although we arrived at 7am this morning we almost didn't make it home. Our last day was supposed to involve relaxation, sun bathing, shopping, collecting our suits (which we are delighted with) and finishing up with a thai meal at our favourite restaurant... What transpired was quite different! We had an early breakfast, made it to the pool for 10am sun bathed for an hour and then BAM - Jodie had another big reaction to a bite and we were back to square one.
We called the doctor and asked him what to do and he advised that there was no way he could clear Jodie for flying. She would need to come to hospital as soon as possible for constant supervision until a doctor could be found to fly back to England with her - What a nightmare! How long would this take? How were we going to get our final suit fitting done (we had already paid for them to be made)? Would Jodie be safe staying even longer in Asia?
After some thought we decided the best thing to do would be to insist on a second opinion so off to the hospital we went with only a glimmer of hope that Jodie would make it out before we flew home... Luckily Dr. Singh was on our side and after consultation with an allargy specialist, a flight specialist and two more reviews we were told we could return to the hotel with a higher dosage to get her through the next 24 hours.
After 3 hours in hospital, time was no longer on our side but with one last (huge) effort we managed to get back to the hotel, pack our bags, complete our suit fitting and buy the last of our bits and pieces with 20 minutes left to shower change and hail a taxi - Phew that was a close one!
I'm writing this message from the comfort of my Dad's study in Brighton and while I sit back in his big leather chair and contemplate the cold grey sky I can't help feeling that our adventure's not quite complete. Who knows what the future will bring for J & J but I know we will face it together come rain or shine.
We will continue to post messages on the site so for those who wish to chart our progress in the UK please continue to log-in at random. For those who only have a taste for the exotic we would like thank you for contributing to our site. We hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as we have updating it and that our story has ended in a suitably happy way - As all great adventure stories should!
