Lake Louisa State Park

Winter Vacation 2007..... Part 2

This was our 2nd stop of our trip. This park has just recently reopened after being revamped, they added full hookups to some campsites and upgraded to 50 amp service. They even built 20 cabins that sleep 6 and over look Dixie Lake. Florida State Parks have always been well maintained and this park is no exception.

Well before the state ever got a hold of this property, it used to be nothing but orange groves. Part of that can still be seen in the park where they have restored some of those grove areas in the park. The rest has all been removed and has been replanted back to its original state, so for now many of the trees are now little and will grow in time. Lake Louisa offers some of the most beautiful vistas in Central Florida and is becoming a showcase for upland habitat restoration and recreational facilities. Its 4,500 acres protects six lakes, two streams, 11 natural communities and 105 acres of Lake Shoreline.

At night you notice that you are definitely far away enough from civilization that you do not hear any sounds of a nearby highway or do you see the lights of a neighboring city but yet, believe it or not you take a 30 minute ride and you find yourself at Walt Disney World and some of the RV'ers were taking advantage of that fact. It's definitely the better way to go you get to see the best of both parks.

Upon arriving we eaisly backed into our site, however they do have pull thrus also. Ours had a view of the lake behind us with the boardwalk leading directly to it. The park did have hiking trails however you had to drive to an area where you could then take the trail. Likewise, the lakes were too far to walk to and getting in your vehicle was the best option to gain access. Lake Louisa is where they have a swimming area, however dogs were not allowed in this area.

When the park had added the sewer lines they had placed them towards the back of the site so that meant a trip to town for a sewer extension, while there we checked out a pretty nifty fifth wheel that had all the bells & whistles. This would be the type of fifth wheel for full timing it. The biggest hurdle with this fifth wheel is getting a tow vehicle capable of pulling this massive 39 footer.
