I woke up this morning and the sun was shining. There was hardly a cloud in the sky.
It looked like it would be a great day until I came out of my room and found my bike lying on its side. I had put it on the centre stand to adjust the chain last night and it must have sunk sometime during the night.
I stood it up and looked it over. No harm done. I may have lost a little fuel. I got another good chip on my fuel tank's fancy paint job. On the bright side, I can point to the chip as a reminder of my trip to the arctic.
I had heard many horror stories from various riders about the road from Coldfoot to Prudhoe Bay. I kept waiting for the tough part but I have to admit I found it to be a pretty easy ride. It was a much better road than several I had already ridden on this trip.
The scenery was great going through the treeless Brooks Range mountains and the vastness of the tundra was amazing. I was fortunate enough to see a small group of caribou, some tundra swans and many other birds along the way.
It was warm and sunny all day and the 400 km of gravel was just my cup of tea. A great ride in some beautiful country. Tomorrow I am going to dip my foot in the Arctic Ocean.
